Marushin Chemical Rubber has recently released through its agent Marusho wet-method synthetic leather "URN" for sole and insole application. The new product consisting of a soft-texture spun-lace base and high-grade polyurethane resin surface coating containing silver ions (Ag+) offers a real leather-like appearance and safe and excellent antimicrobial and deodorizing performance.

"URN" is wet-method synthetic leather for sole and insole application, which employs an inorganic antimicrobial agent Zeomic containing silver ions known for strong antimicrobial power in the formulation of a high-grade polyurethane resin surface coating applied to soft-texture spun lace (non-woven fabric) of high quality consistency used as the base material. Zeomic shows antimicrobial effect against a wide range of microorganisms including Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa and Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA thanks to the silver ions it contains, and "URN" has been approved to show an "SIAA" (JIS Z 2801) mark as an antimicrobial article conforming to the "MITI's guidelines for industrial products with antimicrobial surface treatment." Due to Zeomic's effect, "URN" shows safe and excellent antimicrobial and deodorizing power, while it offers a soft texture and feel fitting nicely with feet and a gorgeous appearance reminiscent of lamb or napa leather, which is made possible with the utilization of advanced surface treatment technology fully. It is available as a 0.7mm thick sheet in 10 colors, the standard price of which is ¥1500 per meter (120cm width). Marusho intends to market it, targeting high-grade shoe makers mainly and characterizing it as a hi-tech material satisfying requirements for both aesthetic sense and functionality.

"URN" was introduced in the exhibition organized by Shima Shoji and Marusho on April 21 through 23 and its presentation drew much attention.
